Industrial Applications of FRP Lining, Tanks & Corrosion Protection
Corrosion is the silent killer of industrial infrastructure in India. From highly acidic storage to biological wastewater treatment, standard materials fail rapidly. Below are our engineered solutions.
1. FRP Lining Applications
FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) lining is a structural reinforcement process. By applying multiple layers of glass fiber soaked in high-grade resins (Isophthalic or Vinyl Ester), we create a seamless barrier over your existing infrastructure.
We provide lining for Mild Steel tanks storing Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) and Sulphuric Acid (H2SO4). This prevents internal oxidation.
Steel plants use hot acid baths (80°C). Our Vinyl Ester lining withstands high temperatures and mechanical impact.
2. FRP Tank Applications
For new projects, custom-fabricated FRP Tanks are superior to metal. Manufactured using the Filament Winding process, these tanks offer high tensile strength while being 70% lighter than steel.
FRP is inert, ensuring zero metallic contamination, making it the standard for Power Plants.
Cured to food-grade standards, ensuring no residual styrene leaching.
3. Chemical Storage Specs
Selecting the right resin is critical. We strictly adhere to BS 4994 design standards.
| Chemical Media | Application | Resin System |
|---|---|---|
| Hydrochloric Acid (33%) | Bulk Storage | Novolac Vinyl Ester |
| Sodium Hypochlorite | Bleach Storage | Dual Laminate (PVC+FRP) |
| Caustic Soda | Lye Storage | Bisphenol A Fumarate |
4. Industrial Coatings
Surface protection (1mm - 2mm) for areas subject to fumes or occasional splashes.
Waterproofing drainage pits to prevent groundwater contamination.
Lining RCC basins prevents algae growth and water leakage.
5. ETP / STP Systems
Wastewater treatment plants face chemical attack from effluents and biological attack from sludge bacteria.
Handling fluctuating pH levels. A robust Vinyl Ester lining is mandatory.
Glass-smooth surface prevents sludge from sticking, improving efficiency.
Lifecycle Cost (ROI)
| Parameter | Painted Mild Steel | AKFRP System |

| Lifespan | 2 - 3 Years | 15+ Years |
| Maintenance | Annual Painting | Zero |
| Leakage Risk | High | Nil (Monolithic) |
FAQ
Can FRP lining be applied on old tanks?
Yes. We perform sandblasting (SA 2.5) to remove rust. If the tank wall is thin, we apply extra glass fiber layers to restore strength.
What is the curing time?
The resin achieves full chemical cure within 24 to 48 hours. We recommend keeping the tank empty for 3 days.
